Frustrated Eddie Howe gives Newcastle transfer update with Toon in for Marc Guehi after shock loss to Japanese minnows

EDDIE HOWE has issued an update on Newcastle’s transfer business amid reported Marc Guehi talks.

The Magpies allegedly opened talks with Crystal Palace over a potential move for Guehi this week.

But manager Howe admits he is unaware of what exactly is happening in negotiations.

Speaking after Newcastle’s shock 2-0 defeat to Yokohama F Marinos on Saturday, he said: “Our efforts in the transfer market are ongoing.

“I’m out of touch with all of those movements.

“I know we’re trying. Hopefully, we can bring you news soon. I’m not going to talk about individual deals.”

Palace are set to demand a fee worth at least £60million for Guehi.

The centre-back has rejected a new contract at Selhurst Park and his current deal expires in two years.

Guehi has also received interest from the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hostpur and Manchester United in recent months.

He was one of England’s most impressive players during this summer’s Euro 2024 campaign.

Newcastle have already signed four new players since the transfer window opened.

Lloyd Kelly joined in a free transfer from Bournemouth at the start of the window.

Goalkeepers Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy have also signed.

And teenage defender Miodrag Pivas completed a move last month.
